The Answer to the True 3D Sonic games???

Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3 were the best 2D Sonic games ever. What happened after Sonic turned 3D? Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic the Hedgehog were horrible 3D games. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 for the Dreamcast were amazing. The truth is, the REAL 3D Sonic games are hidden inside the Dreacast ones.

Emerald Coast in Sonic Adventure and Green Hill zone in Sonic Adventure 2 are perfect examples. It makes me very sad at the lost potential Sonic had. If all of Sonic's levels were as good as Emerald Coast and Green Hill, Sonic would have destroyed Mario and Crash Bandicoot. I only hope that one day, these innovating levels can inspire a real 3D Sonic game. Never-the-less, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 are outstanding games, the innovation was lost because of the new characters, and Tails/Eggman's and Rouge's/Knuckles levels. I hated those levels.

So the question is. Am I the only one that sees this? The Answer to the True 3D Sonic games???
I was a huge sonic fan back in the days of the trilogy, S%26amp;K, etc. I took a little break in the N64 era, and then when they released the 3-d sonic games I got extremely excited and bought a dreamcast JUST for Sonic adventure.

Horrendous.

Now almost a decade later nothing has changed. It just doesn't have that feel anymore. In the original sonic, sonic ran. He rolled. His feet moved really really fast. It was simple. The story was simple. There were minimal characters. Eggman was called Robotnik. Physics engine worked. The levels worked. It was fun.

Now, basically all sonic is is some superficial CG showroom bullcrap, not a videogame. You have a load of useless characters that do nothing but appeal to blind fanboys and anime fanatics (I don't think Sonic belonged in anime anyways). His new look is terrible, he runs as if he's ice skating, when he jumps it feels like he floats, and when you do actually run fast, there's no actual control involved. In all of the 3-d Sonic games I've played, most of the time I was pressing forward. Sometimes I wasn't even holding the controller! In the original Sonic games, rolling and ';ball mechanics'; were a significant part of the game's speed and physics (why else is he a hedgehog if he can't curl up in a ball). Games now have absolutely NO rolling involved whatsoever, and if there is rolling, it has no contribution in the gameplay. Introduction of dubbing and voice was terrible. They should have kept them silent like Zelda or with minimal voice acting like Mario.

The recent Xbox 360 game is terrible because, number one, it has bad mechanics. Everything is done for you, running is slow, bad camera, loads of glitches, collisions, and you bump into everything when you run. Bad level designs, worthless character designs. No challenge. BAD dubbing. BAD flow (load times are a pain in the ***). It feels like a game made out of desperation. Worst of all, there's an introduction of a human romance with Sonic. That's just plain weird and nasty.

Trust me, I used to be ten times more angry for Sonic team and Yuji Naka for ruining Sonic and even more angry that everyone didn't care and even LIKED the games, only blinded by their fanboy mentality. Nowadays, I don't really care as much anymore because I've accepted the fact that Sonic died way back in 1994. And I'm glad that people are starting to realize that the new Sonic games suck, as shown in the overwhelmingly negative reviews. The Answer to the True 3D Sonic games???
Yea those levels go in the right direction, but only because they are old levels

You are the only one losing sleep over this. I work in this industry and see tens of thousands of these 3D games packaged each week. Typically 30,000 of at least one of these titles you mentioned at least once a week, seems moslty for PS2 or GameCube.
nope i see it too...the thing is, sega have always published sonic games, but they have not always developed them, for instance Backbone Entertainment developed Sonic Rivals for the PSP. This gave the game a less ';sega sonic'; feel to it. It's all downhill from here, unless sega starts developing these once great games. I hope this helps.
you're right, a lot of the great sonic experience was lost when he was ported to 3D. Also, he had to use his partners in sonic heroes which could get a bit annoying since omega is a lumbering idiot and flying was so slow.

But now sonic and the secret rings is out and its all about sonic: Just sonic. It looks like the sequel to the last great sonic game made (sonic the hedgehog 4). check it out at ign.com
Alexande Best wishes for you...
